by Ted Williams, John W. Underwood
Amazon.com
As a boy, all Ted Williams wanted was to be the best hitter there ever was. Through his storied tenure with the Red Sox, he pretty much got his wish. He not only hit, he knew how to hit; there was no keener, more devoted, more articulate student of the art. The Science of Hitting is his comprehensive book of wisdom and anecdote, a baseball bible that offers clear, concise, well-illustrated, fundamental information on how to hit a baseball and, just as important, how to think about hitting a baseball. Williams's first commandment is "Get a good pitch to hit," and, in one of baseball's most dramatic teaching tools--a photograph that divides his strike zone into 77 baseballs, seven wide by 11 high--Williams projects what he would hit at each pitch location, from .230 on the low-outside strike to .400 in what he called his "happy zone," the heart of the plate belt high. In 1941, that happy zone was obviously ecstatic; Williams hit .406 that year, the last to break the magic .400 barrier.

Very Good Text on the
Skills and Tatics
This was a very good book that explained the basics and the finer
points of teaching baseball to children. This is a book that
could be used over and over again at each level.
"You Can Teach Hitting : A
Systematic Approach for Parents, Coaches and Players"
by Dusty Baker, et al
A reader from Central New York State , September 13, 1999 5 out of 5 stars
An easy, sure fire way to learn a
compact, powerful swing
The genius of Dusty Baker's book is that the swing is broken into
components, each with a mnemonic phrase, which makes
understanding and remembering the key concepts easy for the
youngest player. The kids that I have coached who have lost form
on their swing, can get their groove back by a single suggestion
of, "Ike to Mike" or "Inward Turn." This book
is not only for the very young hitter, there are sections on
pitch recognition, offensive strategies, and the mental aspects
of hitting. I highly recommend this book for dads or youth
baseball coaches so they can teach their players proper, and easy
to learn hitting technique, and have them remember, and use, the
knowledge.
"Baseball for Dummies (For Dummies)"
by Joe Morgan, et al
Amazon.com
Baseball is another solid hit in the popular Dummies series. With its chatty style, snappy graphics, and enjoyably informative top-10 lists, the book sticks to the Dummies format better than most pitchers follow their catchers' signs, a plus to be sure. The real plus, though, resides in the deftness of Joe Morgan's voice. The former Hall of Fame second baseman-turned television analyst has proven himself a natural communicator in the booth; he comes across just as comfortable, informative, and thorough in print. His enthusiasm spills over, but not at the expense of his broad knowledge. Morgan, naturally, covers the bases--hitting, pitching, fielding, running, coaching--with plenty of whys teamed up with the requisite how-tos. For added expertise he calls on fellow pros such as Hall of Famer Bob Gibson and MVP third-baseman Ken Caminiti. Deceptively sophisticated, Baseball for Dummies is a marvelously good-natured introduction to the game, but it also hurls enough insight to hook baseball's more advanced students.
Book Description

baseball statistics for your favorite players and hometown teams.
And if getting out on the field isn't part of your game plan, the

in your living room, or on the Internet -- making sense of all
that colorful chatter (plus super hints for winning big with
fantasy baseball). Don't be the one left standing in the outfield

Improve my technique and enhance my mental power efficiently
It's entirely a perfect, classic reference for a pitcher. Because
my poor English, I can't express it well that how wonderful this
book is. But after read this book, I got the most significant
improvement not only technique but also mental enhancement, even
more than what I learned in seven years of playing baseball
before. Compare with what I learned from this book now, I feel I
have wasted seven years before but learned nothing--or even much
wrong. No matter you have been an All Star or just a beginner of
pitching, you should read this book. I can say, this book will be
the best pitching coach of you.

Outstanding Book
on Coaching Little League Baseball
I found this book reinforced some of the more successful things I'd
been doing as a coach and gave me many other tips I intend to put
into use this season. The author is methodical in his approach
and it is easy to see why he never had a losing season in 15
years of coaching Little League. I'd recommend this book to
anyone who wants to do a good job coaching youth baseball.

nice book
I bought this book even though I do not play baseball. The
descriptions of basic weight training exercises are excellent.
Also, there are a number of agility drills and medicine ball
exercises for the upper body which would benefit athletes from
other sports.

Commplete is definatly the word of choice.
This book goes in depth with all areas of your game to help you
reach your maximum ability and beyond in total body conditioning.
I was pleased with each chapter and learned many new techniques
and drills. There are many drills to chose from so you don't
adapt to one training. I didn't know about this before and now I'm
excited to set my futre in the right direction of conditioning.
The book gives the games most effective secrets I didn't know
about before and I now incorporate these secrets in preparing for
the upcoming year. The book teaches the need to not just train
hard, but smart. I can't tell you enough about how well thought
out and written this book is. I believe this book goes beyond 5
star!

A great way to get ready for baseball season through trainin
Complete training for baseball is a great book. It can change any
persons life for the better if that person follows this book.
Which is difficult. It almost expects that you have a full gym
right in your basement. However if you do have a reachable full
free-weight gym near to you this book can deeply help you. Also I
would have liked the book more if it had a goal of how much
weight should be lifted and how fast you should be. If those two
things were added this would be the perfect book for anyone from
7-12 grades.
